Känguru Institute for the Disabled, is a Non-Profit Organization (NPO), a Public Benefit Organization (PBO) which caters for children and adults who are severe to moderate physically disabled between the ages of 1-18 in a residential setting. “Känguru” is licensed by the Mental Health Department.
Societal/Community benefits
- Children’s Home: At present, the Institute is housing 44 severely disabled children of which 45% are orphaned. After the completion of our building, the number of kids/ adults in this Institute according to our license with the department of health, has increased to 53 in April 2023. Among our children, we have those who are very sick with a very short life. We give them care to have a meaningful short life. One wing will serve this purpose as a children’s hospice.
- Känguru Early Aid & Inclusive Services: This is an outreach service aiming at early detection and assisting disabled children in their early stages of their disability life. Disabled children with learning abilities are included in the mainstream schools with an inclusion helper for their education. In 2019 we started an ECD center on our premises with a unique “reverse-inclusion” concept where we take children from our residential center to attend at the ECD center daily together with abled children from our community.
- Känguru Eco-Agri Center: This service of the Känguru Eco-Agri center consists of animal farm, fowl run, herb garden, fruit and vegetable garden. The center supplies the Children’s home with eggs and vegetables. This center is designed in such a way that it is accessible to the mobility needs of the disabled and ultimately it will become job training center for disabled in our community.
